Mike DeWine, Announcement Rumor

July 14, 2009 at 5:59 pm Matt

I’m hearing that former Senator Mike DeWine will announce he is running for Attorney General on July 22 at the Green County Courthouse. Another rumor says he will announce tomorrow.

I have explained my displeasure with DeWine before. It is absolutely unsuitable for the Republicans to run a candidate who might very well be more liberal than Rich Cordray, especially with Mike’s F rating from the NRA.

I hope Mr. Dewine sees where “reaching across the aisle,” “building coalitions,” “reaching out,” and Partisanship other related drivel got McCain. McCain got nowhere with his “precious independents.”

Who is to say that independents and moderates will vote dem…why does conservative partisanship push independents to dem’s who actually are some of the most nasty, bitter, divisive people in politics.

Republicans being partisan turning independents off to republicans is BS. It is a made up fantasy used by the media to scare people like Dewine and McCain.

By the way…not too sure about that Mandel guy on your site’s front page. What has he accomplished? Anything? Nothing except raising a ton ‘O cash from the likes of Dan Gilbert.

Please let me know what the YR super hero has done in office…I may not have heard.

Dumb – all we should care about right now is making sure Cordray doesn’t dump 3 million+ into other races in 2010.

DeWine would also be better than Cordray on almost every conservative issue. Anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb.

  • Young RINO

Guess that means you are implying we shouldn’t discuss Mandel then. I still would like to honestly ask what he has accomplished.

  • Matt

He implemented major tax reforms as Lyndhurst city councilman. In addition, I’d love to see him run with my billboard idea: http://rightohio.com/files/joshmandelbillboard.jpg

  • Paula

I don’t know why conservative think Mike Dewine is a liberal. Just because he doesn’t vote they way they want on EVERY issue doesn’t make you a liberal. Remember what Ronald Reagan said….we all know this. We need a strong candidate to beat Cordray now so that he is not the frontrunner for Governor in the future nor puts his money in other races! Make Rich work for a change; he has has two statewide free rides! Let’s all get behind Dewine!

  • Matt

Is this is same Reagan who challenged a sitting President?

  • YoungRINO

Ok. Mandel did something in lyndhurst. I can respect that. Mandel cut taxes thereby encoraging growth of the tax base, possibly by bringing more people in; because weknow people will flock to where taxes are lower. However, we still don’t gave ant examples of anything useful done(accomplished) in the Ohio house
. Let me help you guys: let’s think proposed tax cut. Ring any bells?

  • YoungRINO

I should make this so easy. I am too soft. I need to start taking this cause more serious
Before we end up with more of these types.

  • Paula

Josh Mandel is an awesome person. He is an attorney, marine, and state rep. – he is the future of our party. I am so happy to have him running for State Treasurer. He will be great at that and will lead the Republicans into the next generation. Anyone who knows or met Josh, will understand what I am saying. Lets all get behind him and beat the lame Kevin Boyce!

    @Matt

Yes, the same Reagan who primaried Ford – and who would have lost to Carter and ended his career at the time. I liken that hypothetical to Yost beating DeWine in a primary and then getting smoked by Cordray, and also allowing Cordray to put several million dollars into the Governor and Secretary of State races and allowing the Democrats to control the Reapportionment Board and all of state government until 2022.

  • YoungRINO

What does Josh mandel being a nice person have to do with anything? Did I say somewhere he is not nice? Did I say he was mean, kicks puppies, or anything like that?

    The answer is NO!

What I did ask is a question in the context of him being an effective stateside elected official. I asked what mandel has accomplished as a state legislature. I did not even say he did not accomplish anything. Instead, I asked what he has accomplished as s stAte representative?

    No answer. Yet.

Now let me ask what qualifies him to be treasurer. I know, he is s nice marine. That’s out of the way now.

By the way…whAt makes mandel the future of the pArty?

What does he do or stand for? If he I’d the future of the party I sure need to know what makes him so.

  • Matt

As a reminder, I was talking about DeWine. Had no idea this would become the beat-up-on-the-only-rising-star-in-the-Ohio-GOP thread.

  • Young RINO

Matt: this is exactly the forum for this in my opinion (no offense). I care about the future of the party. Dewine was probably a rising start too. However, being good at raising money makes stars shine the brightest which is the case for Mandel.
Being good at raising money doesn’t rebuild a good base. I am afraid that the only thing mandel brings to the able is an ability to raise money.

That being said, what makes him any different than Dewine??? I just don’t see it.

  • Matt

Well no offense, but I miss the first version of Right Angle Blog where we had all sorts of Blackwell and Petro fans going at it. Instead we have a couple of guys who only know how to play one note, and post post post post post about it.

  • Young RINO

i am actually playing a couple notes here on two different instruments.

I am just concerned about the lack of substance that everyone including you is calling the future of the party. I still have not seen one shred of the evidence that I asked for. In fact, I threw everyone a bone.

I stand by the statement that this is exactly the forum to have the discussion. Also, I not a fan of any one pol. Being a fan of Mr. X or Mr Y is a poor choice. These pol’s…their only real interest is for themself.

I understand your deep loyalty and respect for Ken Blackwell. I am big fan of what Mr. Blackwell says he stands for most of the time, serious. I campaigned hard for him.

  • Young RINO

No offense…but the obsession with Mike Dewine seems like an old note…I am just livening things up a bit….

  • YoungRINO

Now that I thought about I think there is a petro obsession here too. I am on your side remember.

  • old non-RINO

I generally prefer the more conservative candidates in primaries, even where some poll shows the so-called “moderate” doing better in the fall. But that has its limits, such as when the purist candidate has no good chance at all.
So Matt, do you think Yost can beat Cordray? If not, who can?
Plus, RINOs are more dangerous as legislators voting wrong. But for non-governor executive spots, it’s not as bad. Even Petro, who you hated so much, didn’t do anything liberal as AG, did he? I seemed to recall that he was pretty good on policy.
