Your Federal Stimulus Dollars Hard at Work… for Bike Lockers!
Bicycle shelters. Bicycle parking. Bicycle lockers.
The drive to make Columbus more bicycle-friendly is shifting into gear as enthusiasts and officials decide how to use a $490,000 federal grant from a program aimed at improving energy efficiency and conservation.
A proposal by the Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District calls for four shelters and three “secure parking” areas for bicycles Downtown. Bike lockers and parking areas in five Downtown garages also are under consideration.
“I wouldn’t say that any of these are set in stone,” said Cleve Ricksecker, the district’s executive director.
This is that supposedly part of those mystical job creation numbers No job numbers are estimated, but someone will be hired to build these “secure” bike parking areas… sometime around 2011. And Columbus will set aside $147,000 of the grant for upkeep and walkin’ around money.
Thanks to President Barry, all of our bikes will safe! thank goodness
