Ohio House: Serious Candidates in Jennifer Garrison’s and Mark Schneider’s Districts
More than 75 supporters crowded into The Cook’s Shop on Front Street Tuesday afternoon to hear Republican Andy Thompson officially announce his candidacy for Ohio’s 93rd District House of Representatives.
“We’re pretty excited – he has a genuine interest in the community and is a great supporter of small business,” said Marilyn Ashcraft, who chairs the Washington County Republican Party.[...]
One Democrat, Frank D. Fleischer of New Concord, is also making a bid for the office.
During his announcement on Tuesday, Thompson, publisher of Bird Watcher’s Digest, spoke of his family’s deep roots in the Marietta area, and pledged support for the district’s small businesses.
“(My) cause is limited government,” he said. “Government stands in the way of the small businesses who will get us out of this economic malaise.”
Thompson said free market capitalism was important to the nation’s founding fathers who believed in the ability to create wealth and the ability to keep it as they developed an unprecedented form of government.
“Now we need to get back on course,” he said. “We need to elect leaders who realize government has to shrink and not keep on growing.”
Garrison is term limited and running for Secretary of State against Jon Husted, who reported $2 million in the bank this week.
And from the 63rd District, which is one of the swing districts ripe for a Republican win in this sort of environment, a former state rep will run again:
(PAINESVILLE) – Former State Representative and local business owner Ron Young announced his candidacy for the 63rd District of the Ohio House of Representatives today. Rep. Young will seek the seat he held from 1997 until he was term-limited in 2004. The district encompasses the eastern half of Lake County.
“Employers and jobs are leaving our state in droves and House Democrats have done nothing to fix Ohio’s staggering unemployment situation,” Rep. Young said. “For nearly thirty years, I have been in the business of helping people find work and I will continue fight to keep jobs in Ohio should I be given the opportunity to once again represent the people of Lake County in the Ohio House of Representatives.”
