John Boehner gets a Primary Challenger

February 5, 2010 at 10:43 am Matt

From Howard Wilkinson in The Enquirer:

Manfred R. Shreyer, a German-born businessman from Preble County, is taking on one of the GOP’s top national figures, Rep. John Boehner of West Chester.

Shreyer, who lives in Eaton, where he runs a restaurant, said he’s unhappy with the Republican minority leader, saying he spends too much time as a talking head on TV news programs and on the road raising money for Republican candidates, and not enough time taking care of his six-county district.

“We expect our representatives to be working for the people in this district, not out working on his tan and politicizing national issues,” Shreyer said in a release announcing his candidacy.

His web site is quirky. Boehner certainly deserves to be picked on for supporting the TARP bailout. But his critique of NAFTA should send up all types of red flags to conservatives, as he sounds too much like Sherrod Brown and Pat Buchanan. About 55% of Ohio’s exports go to Canada and Mexico, and the last thing the state needs is for the Federal government to make trade more difficult.

Ohio's focus should be on the following House members: Boccieri (OH-16), Driehaus (OH-1), Kilroy (OH-15), Space (OH-18), and Wilson (OH-6). They all voted for at least 2 of the 3 terrible bills in '09 (i.e., stimulus, cap-and-trade, and healthcare) and represent districts that gave McCain at least 45% of the vote in '08. If that isn't enough … these 5 Ohio “reps” voted just yesterday to raise the debt ceiling. None of these “reps” are Republicans. Boehner has kept his party in line.

I agree with the names above, but who will replace them? The GOP is supporting Stivers in OH-15 who will only be a lapdog to the political establishment. It's time to get some every day citizens in office, not rank-n-file politicians looking for a promotion.

Ohio's primary is on May 4th. 3 months is a long time in politics. Ask Charlie Crist. If what you are saying is true … then constituents need to flex their collective political muscle in OH-15 and be heard. We will be spotlighting this district in the coming days/weeks. We'd love to hear what you have to say…
