Dennis Willard, ABJ Columnist Turned Ohio Democrat Loser
Dennis Willard, a lefty columnist and reporter for the Akron Beacon Urinal, has written many silly things in his pathetic, meaningless career.
And in this election cycle, he has taken Democrat marching orders in portraying John Kasich’s success and business acumen as essentially being responsible for the collapse of the entire American economy. In addition, he gently excused the insidious politics behind Ted Strickland’s political decision to appoint an unqualified jurist- Eric Brown- to take over and besmirch the position once held by Chief Justice Moyer. He has been a stenographer for Ohio House Speaker Armond Budish by ignoring the serious, uphill fight Democrats face in maintaining their razor-thin majority.
And has a true liberal, Willard loves taxes so much that he called Ted Strickland’s sloppy efforts to avoid tax increases as paranoid and irresponsible:
Voinovich immediately understood that the court’s ruling last week placed a 90-day moratorium on Strickland’s plan to raise $933 million from slot revenues. If LetOhioVote.org collects enough signatures, then the slot plan would be on ice until voters decide up or down in November 2010.
Ohio has a huge hole in its budget, so Voinovich enthusiastically suggested that a tax increase was the correct public policy step to take at this time.
Strickland’s reaction demonstrates the governor’s inability to seize an opportunity.
The governor called Voinovich’s reaction ”immature.”
Now, Voinovich is a lot of things, good and bad, but he is not immature.
You do not survive in the rough and tumble politics of Cleveland as mayor for 10 years if you are ”immature.”
Nor do you rule over the Statehouse for eight years as governor or serve 12 years in the U.S. Senate, including time as a member of the majority party (something Strickland never did in the U.S. House), if you are ”immature.”
Strickland’s thin skin and paranoia dictated his undignified response.
It is true that the governor’s party has been labeled tax-happy in one negative political commercial after another for more than 20 years, so Democrats have come to believe the only way to win elections is to avoid raising taxes.
But this fear and loathing has gone too far.
It is not only paranoid, but also politically inept, to mistake Voinovich’s call for a tax increase as some kind of a setup — a move, some suggested, designed to help put fellow Republican John Kasich in the governor’s mansion.
More than that, and getting back to the theme here, it was a missed opportunity for Strickland.
But apparently, this didn’t hurt Willard during his job interview for his new employer: The Ohio Democratic Party. With the decline of print journalism, reporters are quick to suck up to the Democrat-controlled political establishment looking for lucrative jobs. We saw this in 2006 with how Plain Dealer reporter Ted Wendling took a job with the administration immediately after spending more than a year covering the gubenitorial campaign. And there was, of course, Sandy Theis, who took a corrupt Speaker of the Ohio Larry Householder to the wood shed with wild accusations, only to find herself in a position to charge absorbent fees from Democrats in order to keep the smears coming.
And this is why people don’t trust newspapers. There is no such thing as an unbiased reporter, and Willard is showing how hard work shilling for liberalism can be profitable.
Dennis Willard is a hack and a shill for the political machine. He is a disgrace to the reporting profession and should be ashamed of himself. Dennis, you are a loser.
